About Nina Soyfer as a Visual Artist
Nina Soyfer is originally from Ukraine, where she started her music, dance, and art education at the age of five. In 2003 her art work titled Cocktail of Dance won third prize in Ukraine’s creative arts competition titled Dance. In the same year she was selected as one of three visual art laureates from Ukraine in the international competition Israel in Dance and Colour, to study with artists in Israel. There she created and exhibited paintings, sculptures, and photographs. As a young artist, Nina attended seminars and Master classes conducted by internationally renowned artists from Israel and USA. Upon return from Israel, she was invited to exhibit all of her art works (paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other artistic creations) at the Ukrainian University M.D. Leontovytch College of Culture and Arts, where she also gave lectures on her art to the University administration, faculty, and students.
In addition to exhibiting and lecturing on her own art collections to University students, she has also created a visual art pedagogical method and conducted a number of artistic programs in public schools of Toronto. These include a visual art program for high school students (Norfinch PS) and an Integrated Arts Program in Sheppard Public School, where students were exposed to music listening and production as they also painted and created visual art works. The pedagogical technique she developed was also taught to several private students in visual art.
“There is an element of improvisation, freedom, and divine order from deep within my heart in my works, for I never create well without full harmony with myself. Each work for me is like falling in love again and again, for each painting is my beloved child for that period of creation. I hope to inspire new artists, and to share with experienced artists and the general public through my heart expressed in the language of form and colour.”
Nina Soyfer holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, an ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music with First Class Honours, a Master of Arts in Music, and is currently completing her PhD at York University in Toronto. Her PhD introduces, explains, and scientifically supports the benefits of her Integrated Arts Method (IAM) for combining visual art with music and dance.
