The Piece “Ceremonial Song” is a choral composition in two movements, the second of which features optional digital percussion (can be substituted for acoustic).
The piece features internal sections of chants and rhythmically driven sections.
The music is programmatic in a sense that it portrays a ceremony that would somehow move a human or a group of people into a higher state of achievements.
The first movement (SATB + piano) begins joyfully, and proceeds into a chant-like second section.
The second movement (SATB+piano+SA group+optional percussion) employs powerful ascending sequences, and rich soprano and bass lines. The texture is building gradually up into the mid section, where percussion and piano provide additional rhythmic drive, moving music ever grander.
The piece concludes tutti with strong E flat major resolution and finale.
